Murrumbateman
Murrumbateman is a vibrant rural village 30 minutes from Canberra and 2.5 hours South of Sydney. The village is made up of a diverse and active community and is home to a large number of small business owners. Historically based on wool and beef cattle it has recently emerged as a centre for wineries, regional cafes and restaurants and award winning B&Bs.
Jeir Creek Wines
Rob Howell's passion for wine is almost palpable. Ask him why people visit his winery in droves - the biggest in the Canberra district due to his other passion - contract winemaking - and he excitedly replies: 'people are just fascinated by the place'.
And little wonder, the cavernous barrel room holds over 400 French oak barrels alone! Who knows? Perhaps it's destiny that brought the Howell family to the Jeir Creek. Rob, the son of a policeman, grew up all over NSW only to discover the winery is less than a kilometre from the birthplace of his paternal grandmother (a serendipitous fact unknown to the Howells until the late 80's).
So drop in and say G'Day to Rob at their awe-inspiring winery at Jeir Creek, where 'passion can be bottled'.
