Murrumbateman

Murrumbateman is a vibrant rural village 30 minutes from Canberra and 2.5 hours South of Sydney. The village is made up of a diverse and active community and is home to a large number of small business owners. Historically based on wool and beef cattle it has recently emerged as a centre for wineries, regional cafes and restaurants and award winning B&Bs.

Country Guesthouse Schonegg

(Swiss-German for pretty corner), is an anomaly. This Murrumbateman masterpiece is a purpose built B&B with a five-star restaurant, coupled with hip modern contemporary accommodation that wouldn’t look out of place in a boutique city hotel.

To unravel this mystery is to meet passionate owners Richard and Evelyn Everson. Evelyn completed her housekeeping apprenticeship in Germany and spent years working in five-star hotels across Europe while Richard, a Canberra lad, completed his cookery apprenticeship at the Canberra International Hotel before heading to Switzerland to complete a Hotel Management Diploma.

The two met in Europe and worked together on the QEII and later at the Metropole Interlaken in Switzerland before exchanging rings and settling in Canberra during the mid 90’s.
